Atraumatic Restorative Treatment - Step-by-step procedure manual

Atraumatic Restorative Treatment

The Atraumatic Restorative Treatment is the caries removal procedure with manual instruments, without rotating equipment, low cost and without anesthesia.

The ART will remove the caries leaving a thicker tooth structure, stopping the caries until the exfoliation of the primary tooth. An adhesive restorative material such as glass ionomer is then placed.

Space Maintainer in Pediatric Dentistry: How do they work? Benefits and indications

Stainless steel crown

The primary teeth fulfill several functions, one of them is to save and maintain the space that corresponds to the permanent tooth until its exfoliation.

The premature loss of primary teeth puts the correct position and occlusion of the permanent teeth at risk. Preventive orthodontics makes use of space maintainers to prevent unwanted tooth movements.

We share a complete study and review on the importance, indications, types and effectiveness of space maintainers in pediatric dentistry.

Pharmacological management of the behavior of the pediatric patient: Nitrous Oxide and General Anesthesia

Pediatric Dentistry

When pediatric patients attend their dental appointment, it can create a feeling of fear and stress that influences their behavior during the procedure. There are two types of behavior management: pharmacological and non-pharmacological.

When non-pharmacological behavior management techniques have been tried without results, we can use pharmacological methods: conscious sedation and general anesthesia.

We share two videos that teach us the use of nitrous oxide and general anesthesia as a method of pharmacological control in pediatric patients, touching on topics such as: indications, contraindications, dosage and recommendations.

Formation and development of the face and oral cavity (Orofacial Complex)

Embryology

The formation and development of the face and oral cavity begins in the first branchial arch in the fourth week of intrauterine life. During this process the stomodeum is formed, which is considered the primitive mouth of the embryo.

The formation of the face starts from the five prominences (one frontonasal, two maxillary and two mandibular). The prominences develop giving rise to different regions of the face.

We share a video with a lot of information about the development and formation of the face and oral cavity (orofacial complex).
