Apexogenesis: Step by step procedure

APEXOGENESIS

Apexogenesis is a dental treatment that is performed on immature and vital permanent teeth. The objective of this treatment is to allow root growth and apical closure of the tooth.

Apexogenesis is performed on immature teeth with open apices that are affected by caries, trauma, or fractures with pulp exposure. Follow-up and clinical controls are recommended.

How Does Myobrace Work? - Video

Myobrace

The evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions from a very early age is recommended. Thanks to functional orthopedics, malocclusions can be corrected and prevented from getting worse.

The Myobrace system through different intraoral devices corrects and prevents malocclusions as well as the consequences of bad oral habits. The use of these devices decreases the time of treatment with braces

We share a video that explains how the Myobrace system works to correct malocclusions and bad oral habits.

Guidelines for the management of traumatic dental injuries in the primary dentition

Dental Trauma

Dental traumas in pediatric patients represent 18% of all injuries and that is due to the activities of children, and they occur more frequently when they learn to crawl, walk or run.

The lesions can compromise dental tissue (enamel, dentin, root), dental pulp, alveolar bone, and periodontal ligaments. Soft tissues such as lips and cheeks are also included.

We share an article that does not offer different recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic injuries in the primary dentition.

Oral Surgery: Use of laser in lingual frenectomy in pediatric patients

Oral Surgery

The frenectomy is the surgical act that is performed on the labial or lingual frenulum. This procedure is performed when the frenulum generates limits the movements of the lip or tongue.

Among the benefits of using laser in frenectomy are: a quick surgical procedure, and a shorter and less painful post-operative period. Other benefits are: it promotes hemostasis and sterilizes the surgical site.

We share an interesting clinical case of a 7-year-old girl referred by the orthodontist for a lingual frenectomy. In the article we can find the benefits of using laser in frenectomy.

Celluloid Strip Crown for Primary Anterior Tooth Restoration - Step by step

Pediatric Dentistry

Baby bottle tooth decay occurs at a very early age, especially in the upper incisors. It causes the destruction of dental tissue, even leading to the loss of the primary tooth.

Oral rehabilitation is necessary to restore chewing function and prevent changes in the eruption of permanent teeth and future malocclusions. In dentistry, resins and celluloid crowns are used to rehabilitate anterior teeth.

We share a video that teaches us step by step how anterior primary teeth are rehabilitated with celluloid crowns.

Prosthetic Rehabilitation in a Four-year-old Child with Severe Early Childhood Caries

Oral Rehabilitation

Severe caries in childhood affects several teeth in both arches and occurs in children under 05 years of age. The lesion spreads and in many cases compromises the dental pulp.

Oral rehabilitation restores the different functions lost due to the destruction and absence of teeth. Thanks to the rehabilitation, a correct dental and maxillary development is ensured.

We share the case of a 4-year-old girl who presented coronal destruction in several teeth. She was rehabilitated with steel crowns, celluloid crowns, orthodontic treatment and removable partial dentures.

Step-by-step preparation of molars and primary incisors for Zirconia crowns

Zirconia Crowns

Zirconia crowns are a great esthetic, biocompatible and resistant alternative for dental rehabilitation of pediatric patients. They are used when the tooth has been affected by extensive caries or dental trauma.

The greatest benefit of Zirconia crowns is aesthetics, compared to stainless steel crowns. At the time of preparation, a series of considerations must be taken by the pediatric dentist.

We share two interesting videos that show us how is the preparation of the molars and primary incisors for the placement of Zirconia crowns.

Management of acute orofacial infection of odontogenic origin in children - PDF Guide

Oral surgery

In professional practice it is common to find odontogenic infections, both in children and adults. Odontogenic infections are those whose origin is the teeth or supporting tissues.

This infection can invade different neighboring anatomical spaces, compromising the general health of the pediatric patient. That is why early evaluation and treatment of any infection that appears in the oral cavity is important.

Antimicrobial therapies for odontogenic infections in children and adolescents

Pharmacology

Oral infections are common in children and adolescents, and treatment must be treated in an effective and timely manner. Infectious processes occur when there is an imbalance in the patient's oral flora.

The use of antibiotics must be rational to avoid drug resistance of microorganisms (microbial resistance). Odontogenic infections can arise from caries or a periodontal problem, sometimes they can be due to dental trauma or iatrogenesis.

We share a literature review that establishes guidelines for antimicrobial therapy in infections of odontogenic origin and clinical recommendations.

Update on antibiotic prophylaxis in pediatric patients

Pharmacology

Antibiotic prophylaxis aims to prevent the presence of a new infection from a therapeutic procedure. This preventive action is more important if the patient is immunocompromised.

In pediatric dentistry or general dentistry, the general health status of the child must be known, as well as his or her history and the severity of the infection, in order to determine the correct administration of antibiotics.

The Hall Technique: Manual for the management of primary molar caries

Hall Technique

Dental caries is an infectious process that affects both children and adults. When caries affects a large amount of dental tissue, a procedure is required to ensure the permanence of the primary tooth in the oral cavity.

The Hall technique is used on primary molars affected by caries, using preformed steel crowns. The effectiveness of this technique is proven, but a careful evaluation by the pediatric dentist is required.

Hall Technique for Stainless Steel Crown in 3 easy steps

Oral Surgery

The Hall technique is an alternative to the treatment of extensive cavities that have affected a large amount of dental tissue in the primary teeth. This technique consists of placing a preformed metal crown without dental preparation.

Steel crowns are press-fitted on primary molars affected by extensive caries or when the enamel is defective. Thanks to the steel crowns, tooth loss and future occlusion problems are avoided.

We share a video that shows us how to place a steel crown on a primary molar using the Hall technique in 3 easy steps.

Virtual library - Pulp therapy in Pediatric Dentistry

Oral Rehabilitation

The goal of pulp therapy treatment is to keep the primary teeth healthy until the exfoliation stage. In this way, occlusion is preserved, premature loss of space in the jaws is avoided, and chewing or phonation is not affected.

The dental pulp can be affected by an infectious process or by dental trauma, and the pediatric dentist determines what treatment to carry out after a clinical and radiographic evaluation.
